Kel and I live on a 5 acre piece of paradise on the outskirts of Fort Langley, BC. Sometimes I wonder how we got so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. Initially, when Kel bought the property almost 10 years ago, it was completely forested. About 4 years ago, we made the decision to clear the land and plant some grass. It was a project! We left some strategically placed trees throughout the field as well as a perimeter of trees for privacy. A few backyard projects later, we built an exposed beam pole barn to hold the extra wood we had laying around with the hope to eventually turn it into something else once all the wood was processed. We still have some big logs kicking around, a few pieces that we hope to turn into furniture for the house and then a big pile of firewood.

Every year, we host a big bonfire and invite all of our family and friends. This year, we have scheduled it for this upcoming Saturday. This one will be a little bit different... mostly because we finally ran out of big pieces of wood! The fires we have are usually massive. We set up a whiskey bar, order pizza from our favorite shop " Jim's" and pull out the lawn chairs. It's an event!

Yesterday evening, I got home from work to find Kel on the John Deere mowing the back field to get ready for the weekend. We are such homebodies, and we'll take any excuse we can get to be outside in the yard. I ended up cleaning up the back barn while he mowed and then I arranged the burning pile for the fire. Of course, our little dog, Myla was in on the action and ran circles around us as we worked. I swear she thinks she is a big dog (not a 12 lb Yorkie-Poo). There is still so much to do before the weekend! While our farm isn't a working farm, there is still plenty of work to be done especially when the leaves start falling.

xx,

A
