Two weeks before our wedding, Kel and I took a drive down to states (we live very close to the US border) to pick up some wedding things we had ordered to our US p.o. box. On our trip down, we stopped at the John Deere store to pick up a hat for our new neighbor as a welcome gift. That was the moment Kel had this crazy idea to wear John Deere hats at our wedding.

At first I thought he was joking, but the more I thought about it, the more fitting it became. Wearing the hats for photos, quickly turned into us wearing them into our first dance.. and I have to say, I wouldn't have had it any other way. It was perfect.

The reception kicked off with welcome cocktails; Kel choose a whiskey penicillin as the groom's cocktail and I choose Moet Chandon Rose garnished with Sugarfina Sugar Lips. Along with our bride & groom cocktails, we had a specialty whiskey bar. Whiskey is a huge part of our lives, so the bar was a great personal touch for us.

We reused our chairs from upstairs and brought in long harvest tables that were left bare, dressed with glass & gold charger plates, gold cutlery and tons of candles. We tried to bring in as much greenery as possible to incorporate that woodland elegant feel (who comes up with these names?!). The room was set up so we could see all of our guests in a giant "U' shape - a floor plan that many people tried to talk us out of. For a small wedding like ours, it made it easy to see and visit with every guest.

After dinner, speeches & dessert (and A LOT of dancing) we had a late night snack delivered... Cheeseburgers! Kel's nephews (the only two kids at the wedding) stuck it out juuuust long enough to have one. We ordered way too many and by the end of the night I caught a girlfriend stuffing them into her Gucci! The good news was that all of our tear down staff had something to snack on at 2:00 am. Our florist set up our smaller arrangements so that guest could take the flowers with them. At the end of the night, we were able to pop the large arrangements out of the tall vases and into cardboard carry boxes - we had flowers in every room of our house for weeks! I also dried a bunch of the roses along with my bouquet. I would highly recommend doing this!

Our wedding was by far the best day of my entire life so far. I married the most kind hearted, thoughtful and caring man. Cliche as it sounds, I feel blessed everyday that I get to wake up next to him and I have never felt more loved.

xx,

A
